Start the New Decade With an Organized Home

Start the New Decade With an Organized HomeIt’s about to be the start of a new year and a new decade, and now is when most people start thinking about how they can make changes in their lives that will make life better. Organizing your home is a great way to improve your life and start off the new year on the good foot. Plus, if you decide to sell your home, it will be easier to get your home ready to show to buyers. Here’s a few organization ideas that will help you reign in the clutter.

Repurpose Trays and Bowls

We all have a junk drawer in the kitchen. You can repurpose old trays and bowls to help arrange items so you can find what you need. Make sure to put a non-slip mat underneath to keep them from sliding around.

Practice File Folding

You can fold towels or t-shirts in an upright position in the drawer so you can see them all at once. Then you can color code them to let you find just what you’re looking for.

File Important Papers by Color

If you have a lot of important papers to keep track of, why not use colored folders to categorize them in your file drawer? You can then just glance at the right color and find what you need without reading labels.

Kids Can Be Organized too With the “One In, One Out” Rule

You might think that having kids is the end of the organizing efforts. And true, they can make it a challenge. But you can teach them the “one in, one out” rule. When they get out a toy, they have to put one back. The same goes with clothes.

Hang Pots and Pans

Pots and pans can be real space hogs. Why waste space in your cabinets when you can use Command Hooks to hang them on an unused wall? Hang them top to bottom in order from largest to smallest.

Hang a Towel Bar Over the Sink

Here’s a clever way to hang those often used items within easy reach, such as towels, measuring spoons, mugs or just about any other kitchen item.

Add a Cord-Keeper to Appliances

Use a simple stick-on power cord keep on your appliances to reign in those unruly cords and keep your counter clear.

Hang Tools on a Towel Bar

Towel bars work just as well for hanging items in your shed. You can hang all your smaller garden tools and garden hose on bars attached to the inside of the shed door or walls.

Hide Ugly Cords With Hooks

If you attach hooks to the back of your furniture and route your cords through them, you can keep those unsightly cords out of sight.
