Start 2021 With a New Home Gym

Our lives have all been drastically altered over the past year due to the pandemic. Many people in Albuquerque have found it difficult to stay in shape due to limited access to gyms. Sure, we have many great ways to stay active exploring the amazing scenery of Albuquerque. But most of us just can’t run to the mountains every time we want to work out. What’s the solution? Enter the home gym.

More and more people have been working out at home. Millennials in particular seem to be getting into the idea of home workouts. Seventy-six percent of Millennials recently said they exercise at least once a week.

Even before the pandemic, home gyms were becoming more popular. Overall, you can save a lot of money over working out at a paid gym. You don’t have to go anywhere, just the next room. It saves time since you don’t need to commute and don’t have to compete to use equipment. So even after the pandemic is over, a home gym is a great idea.

Here’s how you can go about creating a great home gym to help keep you in shape for the new year.

Logistics

If you have a room with a higher ceiling, this would work best for a workout space, especially for activities like jumping rope. You’ll need enough room to move around, and you want to make sure you don’t set up shop in a room that’s going to create a noise disturbance for everyone else in your home.

A private area will also be an ideal location as it will block out distractions.

A lot of people choose the basement as the space for their home gym. If you don’t have a basement, consider a guestroom or a garage. If you do use the garage, you’ll need to figure out a way to add some climate control, especially in the summer. You want a space that’s well ventilated with windows and fans.

Convenience

Convenience is also important in a home gym. You want to have everything you need for your workout in one space. Think about a mini-refrigerator for your water, and a place where you can store spare towels.

Equipment

There’s no need to break the bank to have the right equipment. Just start with the basics, like a yoga mat, kettleballs, resistance bands, and a basic dumbbell set. You can just buy a few dumbbells to start with and expand your collection as you go. If you don’t have the money to buy new items, you can no doubt find good used equipment online.

Also consider as part of your initial set up a medicine ball, which is also an inexpensive and versatile piece of workout equipment.

Having the ability to exercise at home will go a long way to helping you stay healthier in these challenging times. Not only will it help your physical health, but your mental health as well. And if you decide to sell you home in Albuquerque, your exercise space may entice buyers.

Here’s wishing you a happy and healthy 2021!
