We are very fortunate that these majestic animals are part of the daily lives of so many in our community and our access to great stables and programs is vast. Today we’re going to share a few of our favorite go-to’s if you’re looking for a spectacular horseback trail riding experience to really explore what our area has to offer. Enjoy!
Meander through the Cerrillos Hills State Park on top a majestic Tennessee Walker or Missouri Fox Trotter. The mountain ranges are breathtaking, and trips can include Madrid Overlook, La Bajada Overlook, Devil’s Canyon, Crooked Hat Canyon, Elkins Canyon, Cash Entry Mine, Grand Central Silver Mine, Franklin Ridge and Miner’s Trail. All levels of riders are welcome and will be grouped according to skill. We really loved the knowledgeable trail guides and the true passion of the staff.
What a great family place for a wonderful horseback riding experience! Running Horse Ranch is located just 10 minutes from 125 on the NW side of Albuquerque and offers fantastic trail rides through the Sandia Mountains and along the Rio Grande River! Beautiful landscapes and wildlife can be found along the way. Be prepared to see owls, porcupines, and coyotes to name a few. Plus, birdwatching is second to none. Highly recommend for family riders.
A Short 35-minute drive from Albuquerque is The Stables at Tamaya, a horse rehab facility that is truly incredible. They adopt, care for, train, and rehome neglected and abused horses. Their passion for these rescued and rehabbed beauties is so heartwarming. You’ll feel it at your first meeting with any of the staff. Book a trail ride or private lessons with the staff. The stables are located in beautiful Bernalillo, New Mexico on The Santa Ana Pueblo. Be ready for a gorgeous excursion!
