This 640-acre open space park, set against the stunning backdrop of the Sandia Mountains, is a great park to enjoy many activities. Visitors enjoy the view of Mt. Taylor, the Jemez Mountains, and the Tijera Arroyo from an altitude of 6,500 feet. The park features seven covered picnic areas and two reservation areas with BBQ grills that offer amazing views. There are a number of trails that will let you explore the beauty of the area. There is an affordable $2 per vehicle fee on the weekend and $1 on weekdays.
Cibola National Forest
The Cibola National Forest covers more than 1.6 million acres in New Mexico, with elevations ranging from 2,700 feet to over 11,300 feet. There are four ranger districts: Sandia, Mountainair, Magdalena, and Mt. Taylor. Cibola has four wilderness areas: Sandia Mountain, Manzano Mountain, Withington, and Apache Kid. There is plenty of wildlife in the forest to view as you hike the trails. And when you got your appetite worked up, you can relax at the gift shop and cafe.
Rio Grande Nature Center State Park

This 270-acre region of riverside forest and meadows offers hiking trails along the Rio Grande River and is considered an excellent spot for birdwatching and viewing wildlife.
Petroglyph National Monument

Take a trip back in time. Up to 15,000 petroglyphs or prehistoric rock art images have been found on the West Mesa volcanic escarpment, located along a 17-mile canyon outside of Albuquerque. Featuring designs and symbols carved onto volcanic rocks by Native Americans and Spanish settlers 400 to 700 years ago.
Tingley Beach

Enjoy fishing, boating, picnics and hiking just minutes from downtown Albuquerque near the Rio Grande. Tingley Beach consists of three fishing ponds that are open to the public, free of charge. Tingley Beach also offers wildlife watching, paths for running and walking, and boating opportunities.
