Discover Albuquerque This Week: Local Events, Food Markets & Weekend Fun

Looking for something fun to do around Albuquerque this week? Whether you’re new to the area or you’ve lived here for years, there’s always something happening that gives you a chance to experience the community.

From local markets and cultural celebrations to family-friendly activities, here are a few events worth adding to your calendar this week.

Obon Festival at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden

Friday, August 14

One of Albuquerque’s most beautiful summer traditions returns this Friday at the Japanese Garden inside the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden.

The annual Obon Festival celebrates Japanese culture with traditional music, dance, lantern displays, and cultural demonstrations. It’s a peaceful evening that brings together families, visitors, and the local Japanese community in one of the city’s most scenic settings.

Downtown Growers’ Market

Saturday, August 15 | 8:00 a.m. to Noon

Saturday mornings in Albuquerque are hard to beat, especially when the Downtown Growers’ Market is in full swing at Robinson Park.

You’ll find locally grown produce, fresh baked goods, artisan foods, handmade gifts, flowers, local artists, and plenty of breakfast and coffee options. Live music adds to the atmosphere, making it an easy place to spend a couple of hours while supporting local businesses. The market runs every Saturday through early November.

Family Nature Club at Tingley Beach

Saturday, August 15

If you’re looking for something the whole family can enjoy, the Family Nature Club at Tingley Beach is a great way to spend a Saturday morning outdoors.

Open Space educators lead families on a guided nature walk while sharing information about local wildlife, birds, and Albuquerque’s unique Bosque ecosystem. It’s educational without feeling like school, and kids usually have just as much fun as the adults.

Explore Old Town Albuquerque

Old Town doesn’t need a special event to make it worth visiting.

Spend an afternoon browsing local galleries, picking up handmade New Mexico art, enjoying live music in the plaza, or grabbing lunch at one of the area’s locally owned restaurants. August is a great time to wander through the historic district before fall festival season begins.

Visit the Rail Yards District

Even on weekends without the larger Rail Yards Market, the surrounding district is worth exploring.

Local coffee shops, breweries, restaurants, public art, and nearby walking paths make this one of Albuquerque’s fastest-growing destinations. If you haven’t spent much time in this part of the city recently, it’s worth adding to your weekend plans.

Take Advantage of Albuquerque’s Summer Evenings

One of the best things about living in Albuquerque is how enjoyable summer evenings can be.

Pack a picnic, head to Elena Gallegos Open Space, walk along the Bosque trails, or catch the sunset from the foothills. Sometimes the best weekend plans don’t require tickets at all.

Why I Love Sharing Local Events

Helping people buy and sell homes is only part of what I enjoy about real estate.

I also love introducing people to everything that makes Albuquerque feel like home. The neighborhoods, local businesses, community events, farmers markets, and outdoor spaces all play a role in why so many people choose to put down roots here.

Whether you’re new to Albuquerque or have called it home for years, getting out and exploring the city is one of the best ways to appreciate everything our community has to offer.
