Are you planning on selling your home in Albuquerque, either now or in the near future? COVID-19 concerns have changed many things in this world, including the real estate industry. But one thing remains the same. Your home needs to stand out in the Albuquerque real estate market to sell faster and fetch a higher price.
One effective way to do this is to make improvements to your home’s exterior. Even with the social restrictions, you can get the supplies you need. Here in Albuquerque, Lowe’s and Home Depot are both offering pickup and delivery services.
Here are some top tips to get the outside of your home in great shape.
Paint the house
A great paint job can make a sale. If your paint is getting old or outdated, it can really be a turn off to potential buyers. And these days, first impressions matter more than ever. Buyers will be even more hesitant to view your home if they aren’t impressed with the outside appearance.
If your home has recently been painted, you might want to still update the trim, which can give it an updated look without the cost and effort of a complete paint job.
Clean it up
Good old soap and water and a long-handled, soft bristle brush is a good way to remove dirt and grime from your siding. Try spraying it off first, then scrub it if needed with a solution of 1/2 cup trisodium phosphate—TSP, (available at grocery stores, hardware stores, and home improvement centers) dissolved in 1 gallon of water.
Power wash the exterior
If TSP doesn’t get rid of the dirt, then get a power washer and spray it off. While you’re at it, you can power wash your walkways and driveway to freshen them up as well.
Redo your front door
Freshening up your front door can really make a huge impact. It can be as simple as a good scrubbing, or a complete repainting. If the whole door needs replacing, it will actually be a great return on your investment.
Check your eaves and downspouts
Cobwebs, wasps nests, and grime love these areas.
Stain your fence
Is your wood fence looking weathered? You can stain it yourself if you really want to kill some time. But you may want to rent or buy a sprayer for a more professional look.
Wash your windows
Put those restless teenagers of yours to work on the windows. And if you don’t have teenagers, then this is a great way for you to get more excercise. Use dishwashing liquid and a squeegee for the most effective cleaning.
Attend to the landscaping
You lawn is a major part of your home’s exterior image. You can spend all that time and money on the house itself and lose all the effect with a messy looking lawn. Mowing regularly is the first step. But you can kick it up a notch by weeding, planting flowers, and edging your lawn. Make sure to trim back bushes and hedges and give them a nice “haircut.” (More people will appreciate a nice haircut these days.)
Your home is an investment that is protecting you now during this outbreak. Whether or not you plan to sell your home in Albuquerque, giving it a little love and attention is a great way to spend your time and money.
