3 Steps to Tackle Your Garage Clutter

Many home owners in Albuquerque have something to hide. In some cases it’s a complete disaster that we try to avoid. We even hide it from our guests. Yes, it’s the garage. Most homeowners have one. If you’re one of the few who have a perfect garage that’s all neat and tidy, then the rest of us are a bit envious. But there’s a way for us to catch up on our garage cleaning. Here are three ideas that can help you finally tackle this seemingly impossible task.

1. Storage Space

Most of the time, the garage is the go-to place to throw things, especially if we run out of storage space. To start your cleaning process, you need to make more space for storage. Everything in your garage needs a place. That means you may need to add shelving units or use color-coded bins. When you have a spot for everything, it makes organizing less stressful. The next time you will need to store a random object you will know exactly where it goes.

2. Organize and Prioritize

Now that you’ve cleared space to store all your items, the next step is to organize and prioritize. You need to make sure that everything has it’s own spot, or the system will not work. Carefully go through and organize a section for each the different item categories you use. It’s up to you how you organize the categories, as long as it makes sense. You might want to move frequently used items to the front and seasonal items to the back, such as Christmas decorations. Also consider getting rid of things you haven’t used in years. Do you really still need that unused wedding gift? Can you sell your items online or donate it? Many people find it tough to part with items they don’t need, but it will be a powerful way to get your garage cleaner.

3. Sell, donate, trash

If you find enough items to part with, maybe it’s time for a garage sale. We all know how much people love garage sales. Just make sure to stay safe. Also make sure to price your items to sell. The main reason people go to garage sales is to get great deals. Be prepared to haggle. If there’s anything left over, you can donate it or just throw it away if it’s too broken or rusty to give away.
